Sherbourne Ward Councillor Gary Ridley is calling for action to avoid a public health hazard at a popular shopping location on Haynestone Road in Coundon. A backlog of rubbish is causing real concern to residents and local shopkeeper Charlie Ganatra. They are concerned that the rubbish is not emptied often enough causing unpleasant sights and smells. Residents have described the rubbish collection service provided by the Council as “laughable” and are worried that it may be to blame for an increased number of rat sightings in the area.

The Labour Council has approved a massive hike to car parking charges in Coventry city centre with the cost more than doubling at one site. The Labour Cabinet Member for City Development agreed the inflation busting rises at her meeting on the 29th July. The move is intended to “standardise” charging across the city centre and comes prior to a fuller review into car parking which is currently underway. At the meeting the Council admitted that further charges could also be in the pipeline as a result of the review.

Cllr Gary Ridley (Con, Sherbourne ward and Shadow Cabinet Member for City Development) has called on Coventry City Council to follow the example of the coalition government and fly the flag of St George over the Council house for the duration of the World Cup.
On Saturday England will kick off their campaign against the USA in the qualifying stages of the tournament in the hope of progressing further through the competition.
