Gary calls on City Council to Fly the flag for England
Cllr Gary Ridley (Con, Sherbourne ward and Shadow Cabinet Member for City Development) has called on Coventry City Council to follow the example of the coalition government and fly the flag of St George over the Council house for the duration of the World Cup.
On Saturday England will kick off their campaign against the USA in the qualifying stages of the tournament in the hope of progressing further through the competition.
Speaking on the matter Gary said;
"Everyone is really enthused about the World Cup and about England’s chances of winning it this time, the World Cup only comes around once every four years and it’s a great chance for the city and the country to get behind the team. Events such as these really do help to bring people together and to take a bit of pride in our country.”
He added;
“People are rightly proud of being English and the Council should reflect that pride by flying the English flag over the Council house during the World Cup. At home I will be flying the flag for England and it is only right that our elected council shows that it cares as well.”
Cllr Ridley is still awaiting a reply from the Council at the time of writing.
