Cllr Gary Ridley & Cllr Andrew Williams on Hollyfast RoadCllr Gary Ridley (Con, Sherbourne Ward and Parliamentary Candidate for Coventry North West) has welcomed the start of work to install a central reserve on Hollyfast Road in Coundon. Residents have been calling for a crossing there for some time as the site has been the subject of a fatality as well as several other personal injury accidents.

After a campaign led by residents and local councillors, the City Council gave residents a choice of a pedestrian crossing, a central reserve or a set of lights that flashed at speeding motorists. At a public meeting residents overwhelmingly backed the central reserve option.

Speaking on the site Cllr Gary Ridley;

“Residents fought an excellent campaign to get some safety measures in place and the good thing is that local residents actually got to choose this central reserve from three different schemes. Many elderly people need to get across the road and this crossing point will make it easier and safer for residents for them.”

Hollyfast Road is currently closed off at the junction with Haynestone Road while work commences and will last approximately two weeks until the 30th November. For health and safety reasons barriers have been erected around the site.
